Retrospective

Engage in an ongoing effort to improve the performance of the product team.

A retrospective is a great way to reflect on the performance of the team and see how they can become better.

Steps

Meet with the product team

As the product manager, set up regular scheduled meetings with the product team to review their progress based on the last retrospective.

Set the stage

Remind the team what was discussed and decided during their last retrospective to give members of the product team a chance to answer, “Did it work?” and to voice any concerns.

Gather feedback

Within a time box (5-10 minutes), invite the product team to add their feedback to the retrospective board. The team focuses on three main points, such as: what went well, what did not go well and what is on their minds.

Review each item

After time is up, invite the team to discuss each item on the board. Celebrate the wins and talks about what may have changed or caused a problem.

Prioritize action items

Place each item that has an action in the action lane. The product team will take a vote to decide which action items would add the most value to the team and act on them in the next iteration.

Tie a bow on the retrospective

Once the product team agrees on what to take action on, summarize the action items and thank the team for their honesty and end the meeting on a positive note.
